List of 25+ Xiaomi devices that will not receive HyperOS 3.1 update

While the excitement around Xiaomi HyperOS 3.1 and its based on only Android 16 is palpable, change is always hard, and this is no exception. While Xiaomi is breaking new ground with its new “Super Island” and AI integration, it is simply a fact of life that older processors cannot keep up with the new hardware requirements of the new operating system. In this article, we have the sad task of announcing the “End of Life” (EOS) list of Xiaomi phones that will not be moving to Android 16 HyperOS 3.

To many of you out there, this is a sad day indeed. While your phone may still be a powerhouse, Xiaomi’s move to a new architecture in HyperOS 3.1 means that support for your beloved device is being dropped, including popular models such as the legendary POCO F5 and the flagship Xiaomi 12 series. If your phone is on this list, it means your journey ends here with HyperOS 2 or HyperOS 3 (Android 15).

TL;DR

  • The Cutoff: HyperOS 3.1 is based on Android 16 and requires new hardware.
  • Major Flagships Dropped: The entire Xiaomi 12 series and POCO F5 series are excluded.
  • Double Blow: Budget models such as the Redmi Note 13 4G won’t even make it to HyperOS 3.
  • The Future: These phones will end on either Android 14 or Android 15.

Why Is Support Being Dropped?

It usually comes down to the chipset. HyperOS 3.1 makes heavy use of the NPU capabilities of the Snapdragon 8 Elite as well as the brand new Android 16 architecture for HyperOS 3.1 features like the “Live Updates” API and pre-compilation of applications. The older chipsets, like the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, used in the POCO F5 Pro, or even the Snapdragon 870, while more than capable of running the OS, probably don’t have the required driver support for Xiaomi’s new “AI-Native” changes. This is the definitive line between “Legacy” and “Hyper” devices.

The “No HyperOS 3.1” List (Android 16 Cutoff)

The following devices will probably get HyperOS 3, based on Android 15, as their last major software update. However, they won’t get HyperOS 3.1, based on Android 16. This is the end of the line for major Android OS updates.

Xiaomi Flagships & Foldables

  • Xiaomi 12
  • Xiaomi 12 Pro
  • Xiaomi 12S / 12S Pro / 12S Ultra
  • Xiaomi 12T Pro

  • Xiaomi Civi 2 / Civi 3
  • Xiaomi 13 Lite

POCO High-Performance Series

  • POCO F5 5G
  • POCO F5 Pro
  • POCO M6 Pro
  • POCO X6 Neo
  • POCO C65

  • Redmi Note 12 Turbo
  • Redmi Note 12T Pro
  • Redmi Note 13 5G
  • Redmi Note 13R Pro

The Hardest Hit: Devices Stuck on HyperOS 2 (No HyperOS 3)

The devices listed below will face an even bleaker situation. These devices will not only miss the 3.1 update but will also miss the HyperOS 3 (Android 15) update altogether, leaving these devices on their current software indefinitely.

  • Redmi Note 13 4G / Redmi Note 13 4G NFC (Shocking exclusion for a newer series)
  • Xiaomi 12T
  • Redmi Note 12 4G / Redmi Note 12 NFC 4G
  • Redmi Note 12S / Redmi Note 12R
  • Redmi 12 / Redmi 12 5G
  • Redmi 13C / Redmi 13C 5G / Redmi 13R

What Should You Do Now?

If your device is on this list, don’t panic. “End of Life” for the OS updates doesn’t mean your device will stop functioning. You will continue to receive the Google Play System Updates and security patches for some time. You will, however, miss the new features like the Stacked Recent AppsSuper Island expansion, and the new Password Manager.

If you are a tech-savvy user, perhaps this is the right time to look into the Custom ROM scene, as they are known for keeping some of the most popular devices, such as the POCO F5, alive even after years of abandonment.

From promises nothing, Redmi Note 13 Pro 4G still hasn’t received updates in Serbia, despite announcements for months that they care about both new and old users and that they will receive updates, but the news every day says it’s all just empty promises and false hope.
