Xiaomi HyperOS 3.1 vs HyperOS 3 comparison

Xiaomi deployed HyperOS 3.1 to Mi Pilot testers in China started with January 22, 2026. HyperOS 3.1 focusing on API compliance and code hygiene rather than a major functional overhaul. While Global development is atill ongoing, Xiaomi hasn’t yet released schedule for global markets.

HyperOS 3 vs HyperOS 3.1 Comparison

HyperOS 3 has two good features that we can call “changed.”

Hyper Island & Android 16 API

In HyperOS 3, the Hyper Island used Xiaomi’s own private rules. This meant that only Xiaomi’s official system apps could work with Hyper Island. However, HyperOS 3.1 has switched to the standard Android 16 API. This change activates all live updates of Android notifications.

Therefore, third-party developers can now easily show real-time information in the Hyper Island interface. They don’t need to build special tools just for Xiaomi anymore.

Regeneration of codebase

This update removes a lot of old, unnecessary code from the previous MIUI versions. By cleaning this up, the system becomes lighter and acts more like standard Android.

The main goal of the engineers is to improve stability and reduce the resources (like battery and memory) used in the background.

This version stops adding too many extra features. Instead, it focuses on performance. It is a clear change from the mixed code used in the past.

New iOS style app switcher menu

The HyperOS now has a recent apps menu that looks like iOS (iPhone). Technically, this change is separate from the main system core. It is only part of the HyperOS Launcher app.

As a result, you don’t need a full system update for this. Compatible devices, including REDMI models, can get this feature just by updating the HyperOS 3.1 Launcher APK.

If your Xiaomi device won’t receive the HyperOS 3.1 update, you’ll miss out on these features. We don’t think you need to be disappointed, because apart from the live updates API, the most important feature can be installed via an APK.

Well Xiaomi still needs to do alot of work to give us that simply and fun, playful UI that Samsung give its users. VERY INTERACTIVE. and less boring. Xiaomi has removed alot out from HyperOS settings.if you remember MIUI 14 and its really sad that the new broken HyperOS can never match up.

for you to put the recent apps on iOS it seems like you are doing something wrong🤦 you have to do a lot of steps. very unnecessary, it would be easier if Xiaomi already released in the system itself for the user to choose which way of recent apps they want.
