Xiaomi deployed HyperOS 3.1 to Mi Pilot testers in China on January 22, 2026. This build represents a strictly iterative refinement focusing on API compliance and code hygiene rather than a major functional overhaul. While Global development is active, Xiaomi has not ratified a release schedule for international markets.
HyperOS 3 vs HyperOS 3.1 Comparison
HyperOS 3 has two good features that we can call “changed.”
Hyper Island & Android 16 API
HyperOS 3 relied on proprietary internal protocols for the Hyper Island, restricting functionality exclusively to native Xiaomi system apps. HyperOS 3.1 transitions this feature to the standardized Android 16 Live Updates API. This architectural shift aligns the ecosystem with upstream Android standards, allowing third-party developers to inject real-time tracking data directly into the Hyper Island UI without requiring custom Xiaomi-specific adapters.
Regeneration of codebase
The update eliminates substantial technical debt by purging residual legacy MIUI code present in previous builds. This cleanup enforces a leaner, strictly Android-based environment. The primary engineering objective is the enhancement of system stability and the reduction of background resource overhead. This version halts feature bloat to prioritize performance metrics, marking a definitive departure from the hybrid codebases of previous iterations.
New iOS style app switcher menu
The user interface now renders an iOS-style recent apps menu. Technically, this modification is decoupled from the core OS kernel and is a function of the System Launcher. Consequently, this feature does not require a full firmware update; compatible devices, including REDMI models, can replicate this behavior solely via a standalone update to the Launcher APK.
If your Xiaomi device won’t receive the HyperOS 3.1 update, you’ll miss out on these features. We don’t think you need to be disappointed, because apart from the live updates API, the most important feature can be installed via an APK.

hyper os3.1
Well Xiaomi still needs to do alot of work to give us that simply and fun, playful UI that Samsung give its users. VERY INTERACTIVE. and less boring. Xiaomi has removed alot out from HyperOS settings.if you remember MIUI 14 and its really sad that the new broken HyperOS can never match up.
