When purchasing a Xiaomi smartphone from third-party sellers or importers, knowing the device’s origin is critical. The regional version (Chinese vs. Global) dictates your software experience, available languages, Google Service compatibility, and warranty coverage.
Here are four definitive methods to check if your Xiaomi device is a Global or Chinese version.
1. Check for the CE Logo on the Device
The quickest visual indicator is located on the back of the phone.
-
Global Version: Look for the CE (Conformité Européenne) logo. This marking certifies that the device meets European health, safety, and environmental standards, which is a requirement for devices sold in the Global/EEA markets.
-
Chinese/Indian Version: If the back is clean and lacks the CE logo, the device was likely manufactured for the domestic Chinese or Indian market.
2. Analyze the HyperOS Version Number
Your software version contains a specific code that reveals the region. Go to Settings > About Phone and look at the “OS Version” string (e.g., OS1.0.6.0.UKWEUXM).
Pay attention to the 4th and 5th letters in the code string (the two letters just before “XM”):
-
EU: European Union (Global/EEA)
-
MI: Global (Standard Global ROM)
-
CN: China (Chinese ROM)
-
IN: India
-
RU: Russia
-
ID: Indonesia
-
TR: Turkey
Example: If your build number contains “CN” (e.g., .UMBCNXM), you are running Chinese software.
3. Check the Model Number Suffix
The hardware model number can also confirm the device’s intended market. Go to Settings > About Phone and check the Model Number. The final character is the key identifier:
-
“G”: Global Version
-
“C”: Chinese Version
-
“I”: Indian Version
-
“J”: Japan Version
Note: If your model number ends in “C” but the software looks Global, the vendor may have flashed a custom “Fake Global” ROM on a Chinese device.
4. Official IMEI Authentication
For the most accurate verification, consult Xiaomi’s official database.
-
Find your IMEI or Serial Number (on the box or by dialing
*#06#). -
Visit the official Xiaomi Product Authentication page.
-
Enter your details to view the device’s official region and warranty status.
Why It Matters
Identifying your version helps you avoid common pitfalls:
-
Chinese Versions often lack LTE Band 20 (crucial for connection in Europe) and come with no Google Play Services pre-installed.
-
Global Versions come with Google apps, multi-language support, and wider network band compatibility.
In case your model number, for example, ends with “C”, it will mean that the device is a Chinese version, whereas “G” would be a Global version.

Headphone problem
I like xiaomi because of flexibility in bootloader unlock, but I am beginning to think twice.
My 13 ultra is the Chinese model running official hyper OS global
All Google apps and banking apps work
Even with a locked bootloader
So never believe any one who says that you will brick your phone
If you update a Chinese model with the official global rom and you relocked the bootloader

The above shows how to check AFTER buying, my challenge is checking BEFORE buying, how can that be done?
What’s interesting, I bought my 12 5G from ebay and someone in Japan… the model # is XIG03 which I can’t find on any english speaking websites. It is only barely referenced as such on one or two Japanese language ones. I know it’s not a different variant, as the S/N shows it as an international model, just why?
I can’t make or receive calls with my redmi note 13 in Canada. What should I do?
me I have 10t but I want 11
my Redmi A5 doe’s not show internet connection speed on status bar, why?
