The end of the road has come for MIUI, one of the most popular interfaces in the Android world that became iconic in Xiaomi’s smartphone market for years. Following the revolutionary transition to Xiaomi HyperOS, the plug was slowly pulled on MIUI-based devices, and the interface effectively transitioned to EOL (End of Life) status. However, there was one stubborn last stronghold resisting this fate until 2026. Now, that final stronghold has quietly fallen.
The Only Device Receiving a “MIUI” Update in 2026: Redmi A2
While all attention shifted to the new ecosystem with the release of HyperOS, almost all devices were either updated to the new OS or added to the EOL list in accordance with Xiaomi’s update policy. However, far from the spotlight, an entry-level model, the Redmi A2 (and A2+), managed to survive as the sole device continuing to receive updates under the MIUI naming convention well into 2026.
According to the latest data reflected in Xiaomi’s official Security Update EOL list, the official support period for the Redmi A2 and Redmi A2+ models will completely expire as of March 24, 2026. This date signifies the official finish line not just for a specific phone model, but for a massive user interface.
The device showed its last major sign of life in December, receiving the build number “V14.0.44.0.TGOMIXM | Android 13.0”.
The Technical Reality: Was it Actually MIUI?
Here is where the story gets interesting for true Xiaomi enthusiasts. While the Redmi A2 officially carried the “MIUI 14” version number in its update logs, the device was actually running a stripped-down, pure Android experience (Android Go). It lacked the heavy customizations, iconic aesthetics, and deep features that define the true MIUI experience.
If we look at the authentic MIUI experience, the interface actually took its final breath much earlier. The last devices to receive a genuine MIUI update were the POCO M5s, Redmi 10C, and Redmi Note 10T, which received their final security patches in March 2025.
So, while the true spirit of MIUI died in early 2025, the Redmi A2 kept the name alive on paper for one more year.
We Have Come to the End of a Giant
Whether you count the authentic end in March 2025 or the official naming end arriving this month with the Redmi A2, the chapter on MIUI is now completely closed. Born years ago as an independent custom Android ROM, it eventually grew into a massive ecosystem of its own, shaping the mobile habits of millions of users.
With these final updates, we are witnessing the end of an era in the smartphone world. Goodbye to the legendary MIUI, and welcome to the full HyperOS era!
