The recent Redmi Note 14 series update policy announcement is also noteworthy, indicating Xiaomi’s abrupt change of heart on software longevity support. With Redmi Note 14 4G receiving never-before-seen six-year-old security updates, this is likely to reflect Xiaomi’s software support strategy that can have far-reaching impacts on follow-on devices.
Understanding Current Update Policy
The Redmi Note 14 4G’s prolonged software update schedule is Xiaomi’s great achievement. The phone will feature
- Six Years of Security Updates
- Four most important Android version updates
- Support up to Android 14 to Android 18
- Updates through approximately 2027
This enhanced update cycle brings Xiaomi closer to industry giants like Samsung, that have also promised extended update times on their devices.
What It Means For Future Xiaomi Phones
Given this significant change of policy by Xiaomi on the part of the Redmi Note 14 4G, it is natural to expect that future devices will also feature prolonged support like that. The minimum software update longevity of future devices will most likely be no lower than five years, bringing to an end fleeting update lifecycles that have hitherto characterized Xiaomi devices.
Impact on Consumer Experience
This potential shift to extended update durations has many benefits to Xiaomi customers:
- Extended device lifespan
- Better protection of long-term security
- Increased value for money
- Access to newer features of Android on extended periods
- Improved sustainability through extended use of devices
Looking Forward
While the update window of the Redmi Note 14 5G is currently narrower, only up to two version jumps of Android together with four years of security fixes, what occurred on its 4G variant suggests that there is greater movement within Xiaomi’s product lineup to have extended windows of support.
It would be better to extend the support period for Xiaomi series 12 phones.
Great! How about continuing old models support too? My Mi 10T Pro is very capable spec wise, thank you.
I totally agreed with Gregori Parra, that in short Xiaomi really go down really really bad since HyperOS and thus loose a lot of loyal customer
I purchased redmi note 11 in February/2023. but only one year update I could get.though the phone is working ok but it may be risky to use it for any banking etc application.i will not purchase redmi any more

Will redmi note 13 4G get android 16?
i have poco x6 pro when hyper os 2 realise for me
Whats the use of long software update, I will never buy xiaomi again anyway since they make it so hard to unlock bootloader nowdays. The first thing I do after buying xiaomi phone is getting rid of hyperos
How can you trust them with updates, if they can’t even update Xiaomi Pad 6 to the latest Android version?
How to believe this brand policy. It change every year to undupport old device. Just see previous model.
