China smartphone market grows 3.2% in Q3 2024

The latest quarterly tracking report of mobile phones from International Data Corporation IDC shows that China’s smartphone market has seen steady growth in the third quarter of 2024, with shipments reaching about 68.78 million units, an increase of 3.2% YoY, sustaining the growth for four quarters consecutively.

Top 5 Smartphone Manufacturers in China for Q3 2024

In the ultra-competitive Chinese market, five brands stood tall, accounting for 78.9% of the overall market share:

  1. vivo – 21.5% year-on-year growth, ranked first
  2. Apple – 15.6% market share, which climbed back into the top five.
  3. Huawei – With its market share at 15.3%, Huawei has furthered its resurgence.
  4. Xiaomi – 14.8% market share, maintaining growth uninterruptedly for five quarters in a row
  5. Honor – Market share 14.6%, with its X50 series leading its success

vivo Leads the Market vivo has continued to lead the Chinese smartphone market, among the best, for the past year with a 21.5% YoY growth. Driven by several well-accepted product launches, it maintained its lead position for three quarters consecutively in 2024.

Apple Makes a Comeback

Apple kept up its share of the market at 15.6% market share in the third quarter thanks to the launch of its latest set of iPhones, which, according to the report, have done quite well in China.

Huawei’s Continued Growth

Huawei continued its National progress with 15.3% market share in China, marking the fourth quarter in a row hurdling into double-digit growth, after the company has been strengthening its position in the domestic market with a series of strategic releases.

Xiaomi’s Strong Performance

Xiaomi domestic shipments were up for the fifth consecutive quarter, which made it secure the number four position in the market with a 14.8% share. The continued innovation-especially in the case of its HyperOS software and flagship devices-aided Xiaomi’s relentless growth.

Honor’s X50 Success

Completing the top five, Honor holds 14.6% of the market share. The X50 series from the brand has been extremely competitive; its cumulative sales have already exceeded 15 million units, and it has dominated this price segment.

According to the trend marked by IDC, one of the key trends is a growing average unit price in China’s smartphone market. The high-end phones selling for more than $600 gained 29.3% of the overall market share in the third quarter, up 3.7% compared with the same period last year, which could prove that consumers are eager for high-end products.

Innovation is driven by the top brands in the Chinese smartphone market: vivo, Apple, Huawei, Xiaomi, and Honor-they serve as a driving force for innovation that leads to continuous booming. Even in periods when companies are focused on high-end devices and fresh technologies, the market doesn’t slow down, at least in the premium segment.
