Emir BardakçıGoogle has launched its latest system updates for February 2025 that provide significant improvements to Quick Share features and Play Store performance on Android devices. The updates, which were pushed through Google Play services v25.05 and Play Store v44.9, add crucial improvements to device connectivity and user experience features.
Quick Share Enhancements
A highlight in this month’s release is the enhanced Quick Share feature. Users will now have a smoother setup and onboarding experience, and file sharing is made even more intuitive. More importantly, there is a new feature that allows Quick Share transfers to continue over Wi-Fi or mobile data even after the direct device-to-device connection is lost, for more stable file transfers.
Play Store Enhancements
Play Store receives several significant updates this month. Collections feature has been made available to Android 10-12 devices in the US, via a new widget that can be added by long-pressing on the Play Store icon or through Android widget settings. For Wear OS users, there’s a significant improvement to watch face management – users can now remotely install and set watch faces from their phone’s Play Store listing without needing to use their watch.
Family Link and Developer Updates
The launch adds a new Family Link entry point in Google Settings for simplifying the management of family groups. For developers, new additions supporting Device Connectivity and Machine Learning & AI operations, with emphasis on automotive use cases, are available. The tablet quality rating system has been updated to version 3 to support app quality rating for tablets and ChromeOS devices.
System Components Updated
These improvements are among updates to various components of the system, including:
- Adaptive Connectivity Services
- Android System Intelligence
- Android WebView
- Device Health Services
- Settings Services – Google Play Store
- Google Play system update
It’s also notable that while these features are included in the update, they could rollout gradually, with some of the capabilities taking months to be widely available.
