Google has launched Beta 2 of Android 16, a milestone in the development of its next-generation operating system update. So far, this release is limited to Pixel devices, but it brings a range of notable features and improvements that Xiaomi users can expect in future HyperOS releases.
The latest beta introduces a range of improvements to system functionality and user interface. One of the most apparent is a new Settings menu that sports a darker background and improved visual hierarchy. The system also presents new ways to customize, including circular icon layout and improved text contrast settings, retitled to “Text outlines” for added clarity.
A particularly welcome addition is the new Switch Users widget and a new option to open Google Wallet using a double press of the power button, accessible in Settings > System > Gestures. The release also brings language and region settings refinements, with a dedicated section for measurement system preferences.
The beta addresses many of the issues that previously existed in earlier versions:
- Fixed system UI crashes resulting from WebView interactions
- Resolved freezing of devices during a call
- Improved application stability of Google Home
- Fixed language picker menu behavior
For Xiaomi fans worried about compatibility, it’s also important to note that even though these features are in their experimental phase on Pixels, they provide a preview of what can be added to HyperOS in the future. The actual release and timeline of these features on Xiaomi devices would be based on HyperOS development schedule and compatibility requirements.
The update also introduces technical improvements, including Java LazyValue ClassLoader bug fixes that used to lead to application crashes. The optimizations in the backend should provide a more stable and more dependable Android experience when these become accessible to Xiaomi devices through HyperOS updates in the future.
