Xiaomi 18 Series to Feature Magnetic Camera Lenses

Recent leaks from prominent tipster Smart Pikachu have unveiled groundbreaking developments in the upcoming Xiaomi 18 series. Expected to launch around September 2026 under the codename “Madrid,” the new lineup is pushing the boundaries of smartphone design and modular photography. The Xiaomi 18 series will debut exclusively in China first, bringing unprecedented hardware upgrades to the mobile market before expanding globally.

Modular Optics and UI Overhauls

The latest internal testing phases reveal two major innovations for the Xiaomi 18 series that will redefine user interaction and mobile photography:

  • Modular Photography Hardware: Xiaomi is actively testing magnetic lenses and snap-on teleconverters for the upcoming flagships. This modular approach will allow users to seamlessly attach physical, high-fidelity optical elements directly to the device’s camera array. This essentially turns the smartphone into a versatile, professional camera rig without compromising the base thickness of the device for daily use.

  • Form Factor and Display Optimizations: On the software front, the underlying codebase of Xiaomi HyperOS is currently undergoing rigorous optimization for a brand-new aspect ratio and advanced multi-panel adaptation. The standard “candybar” (traditional slab-style) phones are adopting a highly aggressive, ultra-narrow width for improved one-handed ergonomics. Furthermore, folding functionality adaptations will begin entering the codebase in Q3, hinting at seamless ecosystem synergy between the standard Xiaomi 18 series and next-generation foldables.

Xiaomi 18 known specs

Building upon previous leaks, the Xiaomi 18 series is shaping up to be a hardware juggernaut. The devices will be driven by the next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro (SM8975), paired with an Adreno 850 GPU, up to 16GB of ultra-fast LPDDR6 memory, and 1TB of UFS 5.0 storage. The Xiaomi 18 Pro is slated to debut as a compact flagship defying physics with a massive 7,000mAh battery, dual 200MP main and periscope lenses, and an AI-powered “Magic Back Screen.” Meanwhile, the base model will feature a 6.3-inch RGB OLED display from CSOT with a 2K-PPI feel, alongside a 3D ultrasonic sensor and ‘0916’ X-axis motors for flagship-tier haptic feedback.
