Xiaomi Temporarily Suspends Earthquake Warning Service

Xiaomi has officially announced a comprehensive technical upgrade for its native Earthquake Early Warning Service. To facilitate this major backend transition, the lifesaving feature will be temporarily suspended across devices running Xiaomi HyperOS 1 and legacy MIUI systems. The company aims to complete the rollout and restore full functionality throughout the second quarter of 2026.

According to the official statement posted today in the Xiaomi Community, the sheer volume of historical software versions requires the development team to adapt and test the upgrade on a version-by-version basis.

Why is the Service Suspended?

While exact technical specifications regarding the backend changes have not been disclosed, the massive span of supported devices suggests Xiaomi is likely overhauling the API connections to seismological networks or improving the alert algorithm’s efficiency. Because these core framework changes require deep system integration, the service cannot operate reliably until the adaptation is completed and tested for each specific device architecture.

Affected Devices and Software

This temporary suspension and subsequent upgrade apply broadly across the ecosystem:

  • All Xiaomi, POCO, and REDMI smartphones running Xiaomi HyperOS 1.

  • Legacy Xiaomi, POCO, and REDMI devices currently running MIUI.

Restoring the Feature and Workarounds

Once the necessary testing is completed in Q2 2026, users will not need a full OTA system update to regain the feature. Instead, the fix will be delivered via app updates. Users will need to navigate to App Store > My > App Upgrade and look for updates to two specific system applications:

  1. Mobile Manager

  2. System Service Components

Once these two apps are updated, the Earthquake Early Warning Service will resume normal operation.

Temporary Workaround for the Chinese Market: Because this native feature is primarily active for devices operating within China, Xiaomi advises users to rely on alternative alert systems during the suspension. Users are encouraged to search for the “China Earthquake Network” (中国地震台网) via WeChat mini-programs or use official local earthquake bureau mini-programs to subscribe to timely alerts.
