Smartphone prices could soon increase in China as major brands respond to the growing cost of key components. Both OPPO and Vivo have announced plans to raise the prices of several smartphones in the Chinese market.
The adjustment follows a steady increase in the cost of essential components such as memory chips and semiconductors. These parts are critical for smartphone manufacturing, and the price surge has forced multiple smartphone makers to reconsider their pricing strategies.
Rising component costs push brands to adjust pricing
The global semiconductor supply chain has seen significant fluctuations in recent months, particularly for memory and chipset components. As these costs increase, smartphone manufacturers are gradually passing some of the added expenses to consumers.
According to recent reports, several devices from OPPO and Vivo will see price increases starting March 18 in China. The adjustment is expected to affect mostly mid-range smartphones rather than flagship models.
OPPO smartphones to see price increases of up to 500 yuan
A price adjustment table circulating on Weibo reveals that several OPPO devices will receive notable price increases. The OPPO K14 Turbo and OPPO K13X Turbo Pro are expected to increase by 500 yuan (around $72.50).
Meanwhile, the OPPO K13x will reportedly see a price hike of about 400 yuan (~$58). Buyers considering this device may want to purchase it before March 18 to avoid paying the higher price.
Other models such as the OPPO K13s and OPPO K12s will see smaller increases of around 200 yuan (approximately $29).
Vivo already implementing price changes in some markets
Vivo is also preparing similar adjustments in China starting March 18. Interestingly, the company has already implemented price increases in India from March 1, where several mid-range smartphones saw higher retail prices.
Although Vivo has not confirmed the full list of affected devices in China, the changes are expected to primarily impact mid-range models rather than premium flagship devices.
Future flagship phones may start above 5000 yuan
Looking ahead, industry insiders believe future flagship smartphones could become even more expensive. Reports suggest that next-generation devices powered by upcoming 2nm chipsets may start at around 5000 yuan (roughly $725).
As semiconductor technology becomes more advanced, the cost of developing and producing cutting-edge chipsets continues to rise, which may further push smartphone prices upward in the coming years.
For consumers planning to upgrade soon, the current pricing window may be the best opportunity before the new adjustments fully take effect.
