Vivo reveals X300 Ultra ultra-wide camera details and hints at a mysterious sensor

Vivo continues to tease the camera capabilities of its upcoming flagship, the Vivo X300 Ultra, even though the official launch date has not been announced yet.

In recent teasers, the company has already shared details about the main camera and periscope telephoto lens. Now, Vivo has revealed more information about the ultra-wide camera, while also hinting at a mysterious additional sensor that could further enhance the device’s imaging capabilities.

Vivo X300 Ultra-wide lens detailed

50MP Sony LYTIA-818 ultra-wide camera confirmed

Vivo has confirmed that the X300 Ultra will feature a 50MP ultra-wide camera using the Sony LYTIA‑818 sensor. The sensor is expected to offer a 14mm focal length, making it suitable for capturing landscapes, architecture, and wide group shots. One of the most notable aspects of the sensor is its 1/1.28-inch size, which is among the largest ever used for an ultra-wide camera on a smartphone.

A larger sensor allows the camera to capture more light, which should improve both photo quality and low-light video recording.

Improved stabilization for better video

According to Vivo executive Han Boxiao, ultra-wide cameras are often used for video recording because they provide more stable footage.

For the X300 Ultra, Vivo has improved stabilization, with the rating increasing from CIPA 5.0 to CIPA 6.0. Combined with the larger ultra-wide sensor, the upgrade should deliver smoother videos and better low-light performance.

A mysterious new sensor teased

Alongside the camera details, Boxiao also hinted at an additional sensor hidden in a teaser image under a sunglasses emoji.

While the company has not officially confirmed what the sensor is, rumors suggest it could be a 5MP multispectral lens designed to improve color accuracy and image processing. The executive described it as an “unusually powerful new sensor,” adding that more information about the upgraded color processing system will be revealed later.

Main and telephoto cameras already revealed

Vivo has also shared some details about the other cameras on the device. The main camera will feature the Sony LYTIA‑901 sensor, which will make its global debut with the X300 Ultra. The 200MP camera reportedly has a 1/1.12-inch sensor size and a 35mm focal length.

For zoom photography, Vivo has partnered with ZEISS and Samsung to include a 200MP periscope telephoto camera using the HP0 sensor. The system supports 3° optical image stabilization, which Vivo says can deliver gimbal-like stability for zoo shots. On the front, the device is expected to feature a  50MP selfie camera with autofocus.

Up to 17x optical zoom with teleconverter

Vivo is also introducing a 400mm teleconverter kit designed for the X300 Ultra. When attached, the accessory can extend the phone’s zoom capability to up to 17x optical zoom, making it more versatile for long-distance photography.

Launch expected soon

Although Vivo has not confirmed the official launch date, the steady stream of camera teasers suggests the Vivo X300 Ultra announcement could happen later this month. With a powerful camera setup and several new imaging technologies, the device is shaping up to compete with the latest flagship smartphones from other brands. More details, including pricing and availability, are expected to be revealed during the official unveiling.
