New Feature: Dual-view mode and LOG support for Xiaomi 17 series

Recent updates for the Xiaomi 17 series have introduced significant enhancements to camera capabilities, while the company’s global market strategy has also become clearer. Here are the details regarding the new OS 3.0.44.0.WPCCNXM version and the global status of these devices:

Major Camera-Centric Update

Announced by Xiaomi Camera Product Manager @Bao_小李, this update centers heavily on the rear screen and LOFIC sensor technologies found in the Pro and Pro Max models.

  • LOFIC Recording Mode (Pro & Pro Max): This mode can now be manually enabled, preventing overexposure in high-dynamic-range scenes. It supports resolutions up to 4K 60FPS.
  • Rear Screen “Full-Frame” Recording (Pro & Pro Max): Users can now utilize the rear screen as a viewfinder to capture high-quality, wide-angle video selfies using the main camera array.
  • Intelligent Scene Cards: Adapted from the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, this feature automatically optimizes shooting parameters for challenging lighting conditions, such as fireworks displays or stage performances.
  • Dynamic Photos: A new feature allows for capturing “live photos” simultaneously while recording video.
  • Video LOG & LUT Support: Professional LOG video recording now supports a wider range of LUTs (Look-Up Tables), making the preview on screen appear more vivid and realistic.
  • Dual-View Mode: A vlog-centric mode that allows the front and rear cameras to record simultaneously.
  • Customizable Interface: The top toolbar and menu layouts can now be fully customized to fit individual user habits.
  • Important Note: The newly added “Dynamic Watermark” feature will only be active on photos taken after the update. It cannot be applied retroactively to old photos.

Global Availability: The Good and The Bad News

Leaks and reports have confirmed Xiaomi’s strategy for this year.

Bad News (Pro Series):

It is confirmed that the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max will not be released globally. These unique models, featuring the secondary rear screen, will remain China Exclusives. Users who import these devices can still access features like “rear screen notifications” via beta updates (e.g., HyperOS 3.0.300.8 Beta), but there will be no official Global ROM support.

Good News (Standard & Ultra):

  • Xiaomi 17 (Standard Model): Will have a global launch very soon.
  • Xiaomi 17 Ultra: The ultimate flagship of the series, featuring the most powerful LOFIC camera hardware, is also confirmed for the global market.

In summary; for users hoping to experience the rear screen technology, the only option appears to be importing a Chinese unit. Those waiting for official warranty and global software support should focus their attention on the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra.
