Xiaomi users are obsessed with these 2 new HyperOS 3.1 features

When Xiaomi HyperOS 3.1 (based on Android 16), a beta version of the operating system, was released this week, the tech community immediately began buzzing about it. The latest operating system from Xiaomi has introduced a plethora of exciting features, including a new kernel and a brand new Gallery app. Nevertheless, the tech community has weighed in on what they think is the most exciting part of the new operating system, and it is not what you might think.

After using the latest operating system on the Xiaomi 17 and Xiaomi 17 Ultra devices, it is clear that the tech community has fallen in love with two exciting features of the new operating system.

1. Finally! The “Stacked” Recent Apps Layout

Xiaomi has finally listened to the community and has introduced a brand new Recent Apps menu that is finally on par with what iOS has to offer. The new Recent Apps menu has a brand new look and feel and is now better than ever.

Why Users Love It:

  • Fluid Physics: It’s not just about the look; it’s about the feel. Swiping through apps now has “elastic” friction, mimicking the momentum found on iOS. It feels heavy, premium, and responsive.
  • Better Focus: Unlike the old 2-column grid that cluttered the screen with 4-6 tiny thumbnails, the Stacked view puts the focus entirely on the app you are about to select.
  • One-Handed Ease: The large cards are easier to grab and dismiss with a thumb swipe, solving a major pain point for users with larger devices like the Xiaomi 14 Ultra.

2. Super Island Unlocked: “Live Updates” for Everyone

When the “Super Island” (Dynamic Island) feature was first released, it was cool but limited. It mostly worked with Xiaomi’s own apps (Clock, Recorder, Music). HyperOS 3.1 is changing the game with the full adoption of the native Android 16 Live Updates API.

This is a huge technical change. This means Xiaomi is no longer forcing developers to write custom code for HyperOS. This means that if an app supports the native Android Live Activities (e.g., Uber, Spotify, or food delivery apps), it will automatically work on Xiaomi’s Super Island.

Why It’s a Game Changer:

  • Instant Support: You don’t have to wait for your local food delivery app to “add support for Xiaomi.” If they support Android 16, they support your Super Island.
  • Real-Time Tracking: Now, track your taxi approaching or your order status with just a glance at the pill-shaped cutout on the top of your screen, without launching the app or even needing to unlock your screen.
  • Seamless Media: Music apps now perfectly fit into the island with the new glowing progress bar, looking like a native feature rather than a notification.

Important Updates for System Apps

To ensure that the new visual features are available without any bugs, it is important that your system launcher and other UI components are updated.

You may update this app using our new secondary project, HyperOSUpdates.com, or using our MemeOS Enhancer app, available on the Play Store. By installing this app, users not only get access to updating system apps but also unlock exclusive Xiaomi features.

The Bottom Line

While Xiaomi has often faced flak for launching “gimmicks” rather than actual features, HyperOS 3.1 seems like a game-changer. By fixing the multitasking animations and opening up Super Island to the world of Android apps, they are providing users with what they asked for: a phone with the smoothness of an iPhone but with the flexibility of an Android.

I don’t understand Xiaomi. Many people are already waiting for the HyperOS 3.1 update, but it still hasn’t been released. My phone is Redmi Note 13 pro 5G, still nothing, a friend of mine who has a Redmi Note 13 pro+ phone was able to update almost a month ago. What’s the problem…??????
