Xiaomi has once again revolutionized the world of mobile gaming. As per the latest declaration made by REDMI Product Manager Sun Cun, it has been revealed that the new REDMI K90 and REDMI K90 Pro Max smartphones come equipped with a game engine that supports Steam on phones, enabling users to run Steam games on their smartphones. The list of games that can be played includes Hollow Knight, Hollow Knight: Silksong, and Stardew Valley, as per Sun Cun’s official Weibo account announcement.
REDMI K90’s In-Built PC Game Engine
In the Xiaomi Game Center app, Redmi K90 and K90 Pro Max smartphones come equipped with a new ‘PC Game’ category. Unlike regular cloud gaming services that rely on cloud execution, these ‘PC Games’ are executed through local execution, Qualcomm’s Adreno GPU, PC Graphics Translation Technology, and were optimized by Xiaomi’s developers to deliver smooth and stable gameplay like that of a low-end gaming laptop.
Supported games include:
- Hollow Knight
- Hollow Knight: Silks
- Stardew Valley
All of these titles offer a Steam account login and an individual purchase that maintains full compatibility with Steam Achievement, Cloud Saves, and Steam Friends Multiplayer.
Designed for Complete Gaming Experience
TheRedmi K90 lineup provides support for controllers, keyboards, and mice, as well as customizable on-screen keyboards, as noted by Cun Sun. For added realism, Xiaomi has tuned the tactile vibration engine, including short and long vibration feedback, as found in game playing on a game console. More remarkably, however, Xiaomi asserts that new technology enables offline gaming or smooth gaming in weak networks, including airplane Wi-Fi networks and high-speed trains.
The Next Step Beyond Cloud Gaming
This comes on the heels of innovations by Xiaomi. Last year, the company’s AI Treasure Box Platform rolled out an internal beta version of “Gaming Virtual Machine,” which made it possible for Windows games to work with HyperOS devices. Mr. Zhang Guoquan, Director of Xiaomi’s Mobile System Software Department, noted that “this marks the first occasion on which a mobile system managed to realize such comprehensive integration.” This has been made possible by Xiaomi HyperCore, which supports high-efficiency computing and provides power to Xiaomi’s high-performance devices such as Xiaomi Pad 7S Pro and Xiaomi 17 series.
The Redmi K90 Pro, rumored to arrive in international markets as POCO F8 Ultra, may be the first global model from Chinese maker Xiaomi to come with the functionality pre-installed. The new addition may revolutionize the world of gaming smartphones by turning flagship devices into portable gaming PCs, allowing users to play full Steam games.
