Xiaomi 17 Ultra can come out as one rightful “Camera Edition” flagship

As reported by IT Home, there is a new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 engineering board in the wild recently spotted by the popular tipster @Digital Chat Station. This elusive flagship comes with a 1.1xmm four-sided large R-angle flat screen, the same type of construction as its “Pro” sibling. The rear Deco module of the device is in the form of a large circle, which contains what seems like a enormous periscope telephoto camera—pretty much an indication this is the rumored Xiaomi 17 Ultra.

Reports also indicate the smartphone to be available in classic black, classy white, and fashionable purple, as well as a unique “camera version” which looks like the real camera body. The construction is also believed to involve fiberglass material, blending power with lightness. Even with an average haptic motor, the battery performance in general appears quite favorable, with the indication of Xiaomi’s future continued priority in endurance and image perfection.

Designed for the professional: A flagship polarized around optical accuracy

@Digital Chat Station quoted a product manager stating that this new flagship stimulates the arrival of a disruptive optical imaging experience—possibly the most sophisticated ever witnessed on a smartphone. The space below the comments soon became full of guesses, with several users opining that this device is in fact the future Xiaomi 17 Ultra.

Although there’s no word on this from any official channel, Lu Weibing, Xiaomi Group’s president and Xiaomi brand’s president and partner, has already confirmed in the near future that the Xiaomi 17 series wouldn’t just introduce some Pro Max variant but also introduce an Ultra variant.

Carrying on Xiaomi’s mobile camera heritage

With such alleged leaks becoming public, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra will be following Xiaomi’s move in providing smartphone users with a professional-grade camera in full. The smartphone is foreseen to ensure it retains its strategic partnership with Leica, providing cellular users with higher-grade lens quality and superior computational photography.

Earlier this year Lu Weibing attended Leica’s 100th Anniversary Celebration in Shanghai and proudly declared that “the Xiaomi 16 Ultra will reach new heights in mobile imaging.” Going by the recent developments, it seems the project has transformed into the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, another giant leap in the Xiaomi imaging plans.
