Exclusive: Xiaomi 17T popped up right after the launch of the Xiaomi 15T series

Leaks and surprise announcements are nothing new in the mobile industry, but Xiaomi’s latest move with its “T” series is certainly raising eyebrows. After a notable absence from the Indian market, Xiaomi is not just planning a comeback; it’s seemingly skipping a generation entirely. Here are the first details we’ve received about the Xiaomi 17T.

Xiaomi 17T spotted in GSMA IMEI database

Instead of following the expected numerical sequence, Xiaomi will reportedly jump straight from the Xiaomi 15T to the Xiaomi 17T. This isn’t an isolated incident, either; the company previously made a similar leap with its main flagship line, moving from the Xiaomi 15 to the Xiaomi 17 series. It’s a decision that, while unconventional, suggests Xiaomi is either aiming for a dramatic innovation shift.

What really cements these rumors are recent listings in the GSMA IMEI database. These leaks don’t just hint at a new device; they confirm it. Two model numbers have surfaced: 2602DPT53G (the global version) and 2602DPT53I (specifically for India). The Xiaomi 17T is also known by its internal model number, “P12A.” The suffixes “G” and “I” leave no doubt about their target markets. This marks a significant development, as it signals the T series’ return to India for the first time since the Xiaomi 11T Pro.

Considering the highly competitive nature of the Indian smartphone landscape, Xiaomi’s decision could reinvigorate the upper-mid-range segment and put pressure on rivals. It’s worth reviewing what the Xiaomi 15T brought to the table. The device offered solid performance with the MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Ultra chipset, a bright 6.83-inch AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, and a versatile triple-camera setup (highlighted by a 50MP wide lens with OIS and a 50MP telephoto with 2x optical zoom).  With a 5,500mAh battery, 67W fast charging, IP68 durability, and storage options up to 512GB, the Xiaomi 15T set a high bar for its successor.

Expectations for the Xiaomi 17T are understandably high. While technical specifications for the new model remain under wraps, the developments in the GSMA IMEI database indicate that its launch is imminent. The coming months will likely see Xiaomi making aggressive moves both globally and in the Indian market, challenging competitors and possibly setting new benchmarks for the segment. We’ll continue to track these developments and provide updates as new information becomes available.
