Meizu praises Xiaomi: The Xiaomi 17 Pro series is breaking the mold

The tech world is still buzzing after Lei Jun’s annual speech last night, a highly anticipated event where Xiaomi introduced a lineup of incredible new devices. The spotlight was on the new Xiaomi 17 series, but we also saw the reveal of the Xiaomi Pad 8 series, the Xiaomi Router BE10000 Pro, and the Xiaomi Sound 2 Max Bluetooth Speaker. What’s truly remarkable is the reaction from one of Xiaomi’s former competitors, Meizu Technology.

In a surprising turn, Meizu took to Weibo to praise Xiaomi’s approach, stating, “Don’t change for the sake of benchmarking, but give thumbs up for innovation.” This is a huge testament to the originality of Xiaomi’s new flagships and a sign that the industry is taking notice of the bold new directions Xiaomi is pursuing. The Xiaomi 17 Pro and its “Mi Enjoy Back Screen”

The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the new Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. Positioned as all-around imaging flagships, these devices feature a unique “Mi Enjoy back screen,” a standout design element. They are also the first to be equipped with the powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor.

The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max is priced starting at 5,999 yuan, which converts to approximately $821 USD, and will be officially available for sale in China on September 27th at 10:00 AM. The Chinese tech news site IT Home also highlighted Meizu’s historical focus on innovation, referencing the 2017 Meizu PRO 7/7 Plus phone, which featured its own unique “painting screen” on the back. This comparison shows that Meizu respects a company that isn’t just following trends but is actively creating them.
