Xiaomi YU7 dazzles with 100-speed Grille and sky-s

Xiaomi Auto continues to redefine electric car innovation with the latest Xiaomi YU7. Introduced via the latest Xiaomi Auto Q&A (Episode 142), the YU7 showcases cutting-edge technologies including a 100-speed active air intake grille, an ultra-lightweight clamshell aluminium hood, and a next-generation Xiaomi HyperVision panoramic display. Aside from improving the design and performance of the car, these features also showcase Xiaomi’s commitment to energy efficiency and intelligent driving.

100-Speed Active Grille Improves Efficiency

The Xiaomi YU7 boasts a novel 100-step automatic air intake grille. This differs from conventional grilles with low adjustability since the new system can precisely control airflow in real-time according to the operating conditions of the car.

In the fully closed mode, the active grille can lower the drag coefficient by 18 counts and increase the driving range by around 14 kilometers (~8.7 miles). It adapts dynamically: opening wider at low speeds for enhanced cooling and closing at the top speeds to minimize drag. It even changes to accommodate special situations like fast charging, de-icing, or sport driving, maximizing performance wisely.

Enormous Clamshell Aluminum Hood

The Xiaomi YU7 boasts the largest clamshell aluminum bonnet among any production car, at 3.11 square meters. Apart from its aesthetic value, the design even makes the car aerodynamically efficient, decreasing the count of drag by 2 and the weight of the bonnet by almost 50% over steel.

Beneath it, a spacious 141 liter electric front trunk, which has eight opening and closing modes available — a fusion of functionality and advanced technology.

Xiaomi’s HyperVision Display Revolutionizes HUD

Rather than an ordinary windshield HUD, the Xiaomi Sky Screen panoramic display offers a cinematic experience courtesy of three Mini LED projectors. It projects unto a black band underneath the windshield to create a 1.1-meter-wide immersive display.

Main benefits are:

  • Crystal-clear images: 108PPD resolution, 1200nits of brightness, and 903-zone
  • Hassle-free driving: The projection prevents views from overlapping roads and minimizes eye strain.
  • Zero distortion: Anti-reflective coatings and a distortion rate of <1%.
  • Versatile info: 5 adaptable information cards for navigation, security, or leisure.

Camera and Radar System for Safe Driving

The Xiaomi YU7 boasts an abundance of sensors to support assisted driving:

  • 1 LiDAR sensor
  • 1 4D millimeter-wave radar
  • 11 High-Definition cameras (7 anti-glare)
  • 12 ultrasonic radars

It also couples the NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Thor™ platform with a total of 700 TOPS processing capabilities for swift and precise decisions on the move. Whether it’s driving at night or in thick fog, Xiaomi’s advanced sensor array helps to improve safety and comfort.
