Scheduled to unveil in grand style at Xiaomi’s milestone 15th Anniversary Strategic New Product Launch Conference on May 22 at 7 PM, this high-end electric SUV marks a bold move into Xiaomi’s automotive foray. The YU7, whose Chinese name is literally “land chariot, riding the wind,” is poised to usher in innovative technology with outstanding performance specs that have the capability to shake up the electric car market with Xiaomi’s unique mix of premium and affordable offerings.
The impressive dimensions and structure
Details presented in documents filed at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology show that the Xiaomi YU7 is endowed with its own impressive proportions in line with its classification as a middle to full-size SUV. The car is 4999mm in length, 1996mm in width and 1608mm or 1600mm high (depending on variant), and is most significantly equipped with a 3000mm-long wheelbase that guarantees ample interior space for passengers and luggage.
These parameters position the YU7 directly against incumbent premium electric SUVs from traditional OEMs and nascent EV-focused players alike, indicating Xiaomi’s high hopes for its second car model.
Powerful Dual Powertrain Options
The Xiaomi YU7 is offered in two distinct powertrains suited for diverse driving styles and demands:
- Dual-Motor All-Wheel Drive: Its flagship variant is characterized by a 220kW front motor and a strong 288kW rear motor that offers an aggregate system output of 508kW (about 691 horsepower). This layout allows for a top speed of 253km/h and features advanced ternary lithium battery technology.
- Single-Motor Rear-Wheel Drive: The efficiency-oriented version is equipped with a still-powerful 235kW rear motor that sends its outputs to drive the YU7 up to a top speed of 240km/h. The model utilizes lithium iron phosphate battery chemistry that is recognized to be durable and heat-resistant.
Exceptional Range Capabilities
Most impressive, however, is YU7’s battery capacity, with two capacity choices offered: 96.3kWh and 101.7kWh. These high-tech battery systems have been described in advance as allowing YU7 to go up to 820 kilometers on a full charge, a possible industry best in electric SUV class.
