A hot rival to Redmi A3X: Lava Yuva 5G launched in India

Every other eye within the budget market segment is turned towards Lava when, a week after Xiaomi unveiled its Redmi A3X, it brought in the Lava Yuva 5G model into the Indian market. This latest offering from Lava is built for 5G users who are affordable but robust in performance.

Yuva is the latest 5G smartphone from Lava, and it is fully packed with a plethora of exciting features, yet it has been done on a budget. The smartphone features a 6.5-inch IPS LCD, which gives a 720p HD+ resolution like Redmi A3X for clear and colorful visuals. The same 90 Hz refresh rate with Redmi A3X provides smooth scrolling and a firm touch experience even more responsive than the already stipulated 60 Hz in most budget phones.

Under the hood, the Lava Yuva 5G is powered by the UNISOC T750 SoC, paired with a Mali G-57 MC2 GPU. Impressive performance is ensured by the staggering 4GB of RAM and UFS 2.2 storage, which makes pretty much stutter-free and fluid performance anywhere the users find themselves in the device. On the ROM side, storage options vary from 64GB to 128GB, which is sufficient and can be expended by a MicroSD card to store apps, pictures, and media. A slightly lower Unisoc T603 chipset powers the Redmi A3X and offers only 3GB RAM and 64GB expandable storage.

With the Yuva 5G, Lava seems to have overspent a bit in the camera system, getting a 50-megapixel primary sensor on board for super-high-res pictures, with a fine 2MP secondary. Up front, in the punch-hole, sits an 8MP camera for selfies and video calling. And this is a giant leap above what many other budget smartphone cameras compromise on, both in setup and execution.

In the camera department, the Redmi A3X features an 8MP primary camera setup and a 0.08MP depth-sensing assistant. The front-facing camera has 5MP, good enough for casual selfies and video calls. The A3X and the SE pack in a 5000mAh cell each, but the A3X only supports 10W charging, which might be a con for anyone who needs to replenish his phone quickly.

Lava Yuva 5G also runs on a 5000 mAh battery that can be juiced up via 18W fast charging, which is user-friendly and also time-saving during charging. Yuva 5G also includes a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and retains the 3.5 mm headphone jack that remains around, considering user preference to use the conventional ones.

While Mystic Green and Mystic Blue Lava Yuva 5G take style to a new level in themselves, Redmi A3X comes in black, green, or white.

In addition to that, the Redmi A3X enables a 4.5G connection, Wi-Fi 5, and Bluetooth 5.4. Also, the appliance includes Hyper OS of Android 14, so it is pretty modern. Further, it is rated to an IP54 for protection from water and dust, hence upping the score when it comes to durability. Lava Yuva 5G comes with 5G connection features.

Priced at Rs. 9,499 for its 4GB+64GB variant, respectively, this Lava Yuva 5G turns out to be something that would catch the attention of all those looking for a new 5G budget smartphone. But Redmi A3X, way cheaper at Rs. 6,990.

Lava Yuva 5G and the Redmi A3X are the two gadgets that target needs, both emerging in a manner different from the budget segment. The Yuva 5G optimally fits the bill for those needing a slight boost in the level of performance, quality of the camera, and a quicker charging system. Redmi A3X serves the needs of ordinary smartphone users—no frills at a very frill-friendly price. With the entry-level smartphone market getting more competitive, Lava and Xiaomi aspire to offer choices that appeal to a diverse cross-section of humanity.
