Qualcomm continues preparations for its next flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 SOC. The Antutu results of this processor, which will first be used in the Xiaomi 15 series, have been revealed. Even at low-frequency clock speeds, Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 shows much better results compared to the two generation previous Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
However, since this Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 prototype device has been running at low clock speeds, we don’t know what improvements it will offer compared to the 8 Gen 3. We’ll have to wait a little longer, as we’ll see a completely ready Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 smartphone in October.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 prototype device
Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is rumored to feature a special Orion core. This is the first time Qualcomm will drop the Arm core design. In fact, it tried to do this in some of its previous SOCs, but it stopped developing custom CPU cores due to increasing costs and some situations. It was only customizing ARM cores and making some minor improvements.
Samsung was trying this at the time. Exynos SOCs had custom cores that were called Mongoose. Samsung’s CPU development team in Texas stopped developing custom cores. Both the low performance of the processor and the price increases affected the brand a lot.
Now Qualcomm is trying the same move and we can’t wait to see how it works out. Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be manufactured with a 3 nm TSMC production technique. In partnership with TSMC, the new SOC is expected to perform well.
Although the results of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 prototype device worry us a bit, we think it is right to wait for October since we know that this is a prototype. It is reported that the prototype device runs at low clock speeds. Therefore, with the announcement of the Xiaomi 15 series, we will see how the 8 Gen 4 will perform. It’s hard to say anything for sure right now.
