Xiaomi’s founder, CEO, and chairman, Lei Jun, took over yet again to drive Xiaomi’s new YU7 electric SUV himself. In a post in Weibo, Lei Jun mentioned that today’s activity involved winter high-speed long-distance testing for the Xiaomi YU7, with a focus placed on key factors such as smart driving performance and efficiency in terms of battery life.
High-Speed Test Over 1,300 Kilometers
The test began at 6:10 in the morning and concluded at 9:10 in the evening, covering a whopping distance of 1,310 kilometers—primarily through highways. Lei Jun reconfirmed that the vehicle maintained an above 100 km/h speed, with the lowest temperature reached during the journey at -10°C. Two charging breaks were made during the journey, reflecting the car’s actual efficiency under extreme winter conditions. Lei Jun appeared satisfied with the testing, stating, “YU7 is working well at present, and we have completed this mission successfully.”
Xiaomi YU7: What to Expect in terms of Design
The Xiaomi YU7 continues with the futuristic and slender design language first seen in the Xiaomi SU7. The front face is of a closed design, and its headlight shape and front surround styling are identical to its predecessor. There is a through-type taillight at the rear in YU7 and an identical rear surround frame. There is a roof-mounted rear spoiler in the SUV for enhancing its aerodynamic performance.
Specifications and Performance
According to its latest official releases, the YU7 of Xiaomi stands at 4,999 mm in length, 1,996 mm in breadth, and 1,600 mm in height with an extended 3,000 mm wheelbase. The vehicle accommodates a five-seat configuration for optimized comfort and accommodation for passengers.
The YU7 will have two options for its powertrain:
- Dual-motor AWD model: The front motor output is 220 kW and the rear motor output is 288 kW, delivering a powerful and dynamic driving experience.
- Single-motor RWD variant: It comes with a 235 kW rear motor and an ideal mix of efficiency and performance.
Both configurations include a ternary lithium battery pack, in keeping with Xiaomi’s focus on state-of-the-art battery technology for increased driving range and winter performance capabilities.
Xiaomi YU7 Launch Date
Lei Jun himself mentioned that the Xiaomi YU7 is under intensive testing in real-life scenarios and will have its official launch in June or July 2025. He even hinted at successively peeling off camouflages in testing samples, allowing for even more specific and thorough tests before its actual launch. This latest winter testing confirms yet again that Xiaomi’s new SUV is a strong competitor in the electric car field. Look out for more in the near future when Xiaomi releases its second-generation electric SUV in mid-2025.
