Xiaomi SU7 Ultra’s gold logo sparks controversy

Xiaomi’s highly publicized SU7 Ultra made waves in cyberspace, with most of them discussing its gold logo in specific. Today, Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun spoke about netizens’ observations regarding the high-end feature, stating:

“(Satisfying vanity) isn’t excessive, isn’t excessive! It’s only human to be vain sometimes!”

This comment was in response to a citizen who validated the gold emblem, saying:

“The value in emotion for the high-end model is significant. Don’t believe me when I say that—only buyers who don’t buy this car will say that. I pay 800,000 yuan (~$110,000) for this car, and it’s not unreasonable to indulge my vanity, is it?”

Gold Logo Controversy: Theft and Scratching Issue

Earlier today, Xiaomi Public Relation General Manager Wang Hua also addressed concerns that the gold-plated SU7 Ultra logo will become a target for thieves or vandalization. Wang Hua assured them that Xiaomi cars have sentry mode, and it will be kept active for added security.

“Since Lei Jun guaranteed everyone that the car logo is gold, many have worried that one can scratch it off when buying the SU7 Ultra. Our current cars have sentry mode, and I recommend having it on for security.”

He also mentioned that repairing a gold logo that is damaged can be expensive, particularly when additional parts such as the paint, front hood, or other panels have been compromised.

Lei Jun confirmed that the five colors of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra. Besides, a renowned blogger had predicted that the logo will possibly be carbon fiber with a gold accent, but Lei Jun confirmed:

“This is gold.” As Xiaomi ventures into high-end electric cars, its gold-colored SU7 Ultra logo is becoming a badge of exclusivity—be it for its appearance or a marker of status.
