Xiaomi kills AI photo generation feature, offers refund to Mi Coin users

Recently, Xiaomi announced the shutdown of AI Photo, an AI-powered tool used for creating cards and images. The reason, according to @AI加油, a Xiaomi employee, in a post on the Xiaomi Community platform, is product adjustments and upgrades.

Key Highlights of the Announcement

1. Offline Timeline

  • The AI Photo feature will be gradually discontinued starting mid-January 2025. Users are encouraged to save any generated photos before the feature is removed.

2. Refund of Mi Coins

  • Since AI Photo is a paid service, Xiaomi will return all Mi Coins to users automatically.
  • In case of refund issues, through Album > Settings > Problem Feedback, users can give feedback and Xiaomi will resolve them in time.

3. Security Clearance of Data

  • After refunds are processed and the feature goes completely offline, Xiaomi will clear all user data associated with the AI Photo service to ensure data security.

Steps for Users

Save Created Photos

Ensure that all AI-generated pictures are downloaded locally prior to deactivating this feature.

Verify Refunds

Check your balance in Mi Coin, as the amount is refunded to it. In case of any issues, report through the feedback system provided.

Future Feature Enhancements

Xiaomi said this move was part of a broader product upgrade, suggesting it might have new features or improvements down the line.

This announcement shows Xiaomi is committed to the satisfaction of its users and security of data when it has to make changes in its products. Users can expect the company to efficiently support them in this transition process.
