The Mobile Smart Terminal Ecological Alliance (previously called the Gold Label Alliance) announced the newest position of 64-bit application adaptation status for member platforms as of December 27, 2024.
Key Updates on 64-Bit Adaptation
Adaptation rates
The four major software stores, namely OPPO, vivo, Xiaomi, and Lenovo, have had 99.64% full adaptation of 64-bit apps. Despite this, over 3,200 key applications that affect everyday users’ experiences remain non-adopted to 64-bit.
Progress in December 2024
- Non-adapted applications have reduced by over 200 as compared to last month.
- Almost 99% of unadapted applications do not appear any longer in most app stores.
Notable Non-Adapted Apps
Among the notable applications still hanging in there and not moved to 64-bit yet, according to the official list, are:
- “National 12315 Platform
- “JAC Motors”
- “Tuxi Express Locker”
- “NBA 2K16
64-bit Shift in Arm Architecture
Starting in 2023, all CPUs using the Arm architecture have started requiring 64-bit instructions, phasing out support for 32-bit systems.
By 2024, Google had limited 32-bit applications on Android 15 such that new Android 15 phones could not support 32-bit apps.
Alliance Efforts to Remove 32-Bit Apps
The Gold Label Alliance that consists of OPPO, vivo, Xiaomi, and Lenovo, later joined by Alibaba, Baidu, Tencent, and BBK, have shown their proactivity in clearing 32-bit apps in their stores. For applications that still rely on the very old 32-bit instructions, risk warnings and other measures are being implemented.
What is the Alliance?
The Gold Label Alliance is a non-for-profit, voluntary organization developed by Chinese smart terminal producers for the purpose of having one standard in the industry of mobile ecosystems.
Members include OPPO, vivo, Xiaomi, Lenovo, as well as major tech companies such as Alibaba, Baidu, Tencent, among others.
Key Initiatives
- Enhanced software compatibility: Emphasis on the faster transition to 64-bit applications.
- Enhance User Experience: Phase out obsolete apps to protect users from performance and security issues.
Moving forward in this changing ecosystem, those remaining 3,200 apps are subjected to becoming removed from sale or might be needing an urgent conversion while Android 15 comes up with its even-strict standards toward 32-bit applications. Here’s reassurance that commitments of the Gold Label Alliance secure a move that brings their users greater effectiveness and extra safety within their mobile application environment. Expect more updates as progress churns along into 2025.
