Q&A: Xiaomi HyperOS 2 – What to expect in terms of updates

In the fourth episode of “Answering Questions from Netizens,” Xiaomi leaked some more useful information on further updates and features that are in line for HyperOS: functionality, usability, and security updates, as shared by users. Important points of the discussion presented below delineate key takeaways:.

Upgrade Redmi K70 Ultra to HyperOS 2

Users should update their devices to the latest version of OS 1.029 before the HyperOS 2.0 update. This is something required across the board to do the upgrade seamlessly to HyperOs 2.

Photo Album Optimization and Customization

This will extend the album classification layout for more customization options like showing or hiding additional smart album modules in future updates. It already allows the user to customize album layouts via the “Customize” option, where a user can hide certain features such as “That Day” in the album settings. Total photo and video counts can now be viewed by pulling down on the album homepage.

Enhancements to Categorization of Recorder

The Recorder app is soon going to organize recordings under “All, Recorder, Calls, and Applications,” making things a lot more organized and accessible. This will be released in late December or January.

AI’s voice recognition transcription and copying

Currently, transcription and text copying by voice is in internal tests made by AI voice recognition. This feature is likely to come in late December or early January, thus allowing users to directly copy transcribed text.

Background Power Saving for Individual Apps

Power-saving strategies for each app may be set up by a user via a long press on the app icon, then “ℹ️ Application Information”, and further to “Power Consumption” settings.

List of Mutual Transfer Devices

Optimized the device list under the Xiaomi Mutual Transfer function to make it display the particular model name, such as “My phone Xiaomi 15”, making the transfer of files between multiple devices more convenient.

Adjustable App Icon Sizes

HyperOS 2 provides features to resize icons of over 200 applications, from famous first-party applications, including Phone, Calendar, Mi Home, to popular third-party applications: WeChat, TikTok, Taobao. The size of the icon can be changed by long-pressing an app and going into editing mode.

Security and Privacy Enhancements in HyperOS 2

Uses end-to-end encryption: data is encrypted before sending and can only be decrypted on the user’s device. That will be a toggle switch feature under Settings > Xiaomi Cloud Service > Advanced Data Protection, and you’ll be given a 28-digit security key that’s said to be protecting your data. – Losing the security key means losing access to encrypted data, making it essential to store the key securely.

AI Data Security and Privacy Computing

AI tasks prioritize local processing, using sensitive data encrypted at the level of Trusted Execution Environment (TEE). Encrypted end-to-end data ensures privacy; it cannot be accessed even by Xiaomi or any third-party service.

Timeline of Upcoming Updates

Late December to January 2025

  • AI Voice Recognition Transcription and Text-copying Feature.
  • Enhanced categorization in the Recorder app.
  • Additional photo album optimizations.

Xiaomi HyperOS 2 is a serious upgrade in functionality, customization, and privacy. From revamped layouts of albums to additional safety features such as Advanced Data Protection, this change has been done by the developers with the users’ opinions taken into consideration and regarding today’s standards of data protection. For users who are supposed to upgrade to HyperOS 2, these changes will provide them with a more proper, personalized, and secured mobile experience.
