2 old Xiaomi features newly added on iOS 18

Apple’s iOS 18 newest update entered its first beta phase yesterday, bringing a host of new features borrowed from Xiaomi. This company has been making inroads into the Android market. The latest release is filled with features borrowed from Xiaomi’s MIUI interface, making the customization of both the look and the interaction even more. So, here are the new features in iOS 18 that look like they’ve been picked up from Xiaomi.

Customizable Control Center

One of the oldest features of MIUI is the highly customizable Control Center. It’s some kind of similar thing that Apple has now adopted in iOS 18. Apple has been putting off for a very long time the addition of incredible customizability to the Control Center after numerous requests of that kind from iOS users. Finally, it has made its way into the final version. With iOS 18, users can now fully customize and reorganize the control setup in the Control Center, which Xiaomi users have enjoyed for a while.

Flexible Home Screen Layouts

However, the one feature within Xiaomi’s interface that all users of iOS envy must be the ability to put shortcuts anywhere on the home screen. The only feature that can trump this hard and fast grid layout would be MIUI’s flexibility in the placement of apps, which is also good at personalizing screens. Finally, iOS 18 has included support for freely placeable shortcuts on the Home Screen.

This is a big step for Apple to bring in a more flexible, user-defined layout with their experience compared to what Xiaomi has been offering its users over the years.

Cross-Browser Compatibility and Availability

Beta 1 of iOS 18 was released yesterday—this one’s for the iPhone XR and newer. This is the start of a new policy where Apple begins its implementation into the operating system: now more than ever, with their customization features to better compete in the Android rivalry, at least in form but still under the light and ease promise being its code of conduct.

The new features in iOS 18 put Apple in sync with that development—actually, they realize that today’s operating system UI has to be much more customizable. With the idea of an evolvement rather than development in mirroring Xiaomi’s MIUI, these little touches will make an operating system that little bit smarter: personalization a lot smarter, with added flexibility and control. It will be an interesting experiment in how features such as these grow and what exactly is users’ reaction to such a change. iOS 18 is a step toward more personalization and customer-centricity in its final release, that promises to be full of more of what Apple Inc. has to offer in the way of innovation.
